Under the ASEAN-German Energy Programme for ASEAN (AGEP)–a jointly implemented project by ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ)–ACE finalised the Report on ASEAN Grid Code Comparison Review.  The Study was developed with technical assistance from Energynautics GmbH.

A key recommendation in this report is the setting up of a Grid Code recommendation towards a regional grid code, which though nonbinding will provide a consistent regional framework for system planning, transmission connections, and operational rules to be followed by grid users and other stakeholders. Keeping in view the technical complexity, this study also underlines the need of a regional institution to facilitate the coordination of system planning and implementation.
