Asean Energy Outlook

The ASEAN Energy Outlook

The AEO7 serves as a complementary document for the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) by creating four different pathways up to 2050 to achieve the set targets.  The outlook also marks the first ASEAN energy outlook, where ASEAN takes full leadership in data gathering, modelling, writing, and dissemination. It was developed by ACE in collaboration with national experts from ASEAN Member States (AMS) and guided by the ASEAN Regional Energy Policy and Planning Sub-sector Network (REPP-SSN). The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, through the ASEAN-German Energy Programme (AGEP), supported the development of the outlook by providing technical and policy advice, and capacity building.

The development of AEO6 was done in a very structured way. The first meeting was about gathering all the data, gathering data from all the ten AMS. It was very systematic and dynamic. The modelling team were trying to accommodate all the country members need vey well. I hope the result will turn up great, especially launching it in the next AMEM in Vietnam soon, and I am hoping for greater collaboration with ACE in the future.

I think an Energy outlook is always important for the country involved, partly because it can give them some information about how things may develop in the future and partly because it can enable them to prepare for that development. I hope it will show quite a broad spectrum of possible development because we never really know for sure how things will develop so we have to show the broad range, and it will take things into account climate policy, clean energy policy and how these may develop inside the ASEAN area and how they may develop at the global level but also have an impact on ASEAN
