Creating Low Carbon Energy Future Together

The 3rd Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) was held on 26-30 October 2020 as the platform for energy professionals and policy makers to share best practices and solutions within the global energy space. The ASEAN-German Energy Programme (AGEP) supported ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) in successfully organising one of the SIEW Thinktank Roundtables with the theme of ‘Designing Affordable and Clean Energy for A Resilient Energy System in ASEAN’. The roundtable brought experts from different sectors around the world discussing the challenges on policy, technology, and investment in strengthening energy system resilience and enhancing energy system reliability while at the same time fulfilling the commitment on the climate change at the global level.

ACE’s researcher, Nadhilah Shani addressed the importance of pursuing renewable energy (RE) in the region’s effort for affordable and clean energy, following the declining price trend and a chance for a green recovery from pandemic to ‘build back better’. The session also showed a sneak-peek of the 6th ASEAN Energy Outlook (AEO6), ACE’s flagship publication supported by GIZ on behalf of BMZ launched virtually at the 38th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM) on 19 November 2020 in Vietnam. The outlook serves as the region’s official source of strategic insight into the energy landscape, trends, and related impact on emissions, investment, and job creation.

Sequentially, AGEP’s Team Leader, Rizky Fauzianto, also moderated another roundtable hosted by IRENA on ‘Global Renewables Outlook – Key Technologies and Trends for the Energy Transformation.’ He led the discussion on how the COVID-19 affects energy transition in the region and whether there is any shift of priorities in the countries’ energy policy development.
